Freedom

Freedom
Freedom is bravery, honesty and strength
Freedom

Freedom
Freedom is a strong person who stands up in what they believe in
Freedom

Freedom
Red,White,Blue
Freedom

Freedom
Red is blood, Blood is war, War is courage
White is purity
Blue is justice, Justice is freedom
Freedom

Freedom
Not everyone has it
Freedom

Freedom
Everyone deserves it
Freedom

Freedom
We take it for granted
Freedom

Freedom
We fight for it
We fought for it
Freedom

Freedom
We sacrifice for it
Freedom

Freedom
We kill for it
We die for it
Freedom

Freedom
No matter what race, gender, age
We are equal, Right? Wrong.
Freedom

Freedom
We want it
We won’t get it
Freedom

Freedom
We want it now
But yet we do nothing for it
Freedom

Freedom
We just wait for someone to get it for us
Freedom

Freedom
We let people take it
away from us
Freedom

Freedom
Is not something you get
Freedom

Freedom
Is something you earn
Freedom

Alive

Drip, Drip, Drip,
The sky is crying,
The air is damp, the forest is alive.

Everything moves and shivers,
The forest, green and full

Of LIFE

Creatures, big and small, all move to find
Shelter from the hard, harsh rain.

The trees catch the rain in their limbs, or… arms, thirsty for some
Water.

Mushrooms, moss, and mold sprout everywhere possible soaking up the water.

The trees green,
The ground green,
Everything, green like the leaves of a tree.

GREEN.

And I, the only thing standing still in the symphony of movement called the forest, watch the forest move, as if it is

alive.

I’m going again

i jump to the ground
to feel the cold snow feeling
rush through my body
like a blizzard inside me.

i grab my snowboard
and my snow boots
the most satisfying sound occurs
when i click the shoes in.
CLick,CLick,Stomp,Stomp

i get to the top of the mountain
the cold wind feels great
like a dog in a pile of ice
i’m ready to go.

i slowly start to go,
i can start to feel
the snow make a smooth path
and i speed up.

this is amazing
i’m the queen of the mountain
but then the bottom gets closer
and i stop, awww man.

I’m going back up again!

Extremely Real

You arrive.
White coats,
Blue scrubs,
Fake smiles.

You tell yourself that you’re
ready.
Ready for the news.
News that will change your life,
or determine if you’ll have a life.

But when the words,
emotions,
studders
S
L
I
P…

Lips quiver like an unsturdy board,
Eyes fill like a brand new pool,
Heart’s heavy like a 4,000 pound weight,
Body’s cold like frozen over ice.

You pinch yourself to prove this is a dream.
But sure enough…

It’s not.
It’s real.
Very real.
Extremely real.

Then you sit there.
Like a broken bone,
not knowing how to heal from the
wound.

Where I’m From

Where I’m from
Sydney Ann Parsons
I am from TV
From fabuloso and dove hand soap
I am from the small looking house on the corner of a street that smells like fall fell from heaven
I am from the poinsettias in my window
The rose bush in my front yard
Whose sticks I stepped on stabbed my feet
I’m from late nights on christmas eve and “who can hold their breath the longest?”
From Jack and Emily
I’m from biting nails and yelling
And from consequences for talking back
I am from don’t suck your thumb or your teeth will fall out and leave me alone i’m playing my games
And your worth it
I’m from ham on thanksgiving
I’m from Minnesota
And from saying what we are thankful for on thanksgiving
I’m from hey buddha belly and I wanna squeeze you in two pieces
I’m from Emily Ann Parsons

school lunch

“fresh” bread rolls fill the thick, steamy air
waiting for what seems like hours to get watery slop
pointing to what I want, and trying not to gag from the nasty food

making room for people to fit, looking at my messy tray of food
remembering the smell of clean fresh air
hearing the plop noise of the lunch lady putting plate after plate of slop

thinking of this mornings breakfast and how it compares to this slop
can food smell this bad? can food taste this terrible? but food is food.. right?
typing my lunch code in, walking out of this metal cage, and gasping for cool air

slapping my tray down onto the table, seeing the thick air evaporate off of my plate, while the slop is devouring my utensils, waiting for a bite.

Celery

I hate celery a lot
Because
It’s gross
It tastes like rotten trash
It tastes like a garbage can and raw fish
It’s that bad
I get grossed out when people eat it
Because it is so terribly bad
I don’t understand how you could enjoy it
It’s really bad.

ball

Life is like a ball
It goes
Up
And
Down
And back again
You just have to get a grip on the ball and hold it

But, if you drop the ball again
It will go
Up
And
Down
And that will make it harder to get a grip on it again
And you struggle and struggle until
You
Catch
It
And that’s just like life
You

It and pick it

So know that your life is balanced
You wait
Until you drop the ball once more.

metaphor poem

School is like a basketball game
Your player scores on you,
Like when you fail a test
You miss easy shots,
When you miss your bus
You get blocked,
Like when you don’t have anyone to sit with at lunch
WHEN YOU LOOSE,
When you fail the 6 weeks test.
BUT you get up and play another game

Watching Winter

Watching as the trees below me get smaller
the snow falls swiftly to the ground
like teardrops

higher and higher
as the cold ice hits my face
sharp blades against my cheeks.
watching as everyone slides gracefully down the mountain.
with poles in their hands.
And the trees dance with the cold winter wind.
I inhale the cool, crisp air
and watch.
then realize,
winter is all i need.
