Green hills in boxes

I had a box of my own
It was blue and purple
Mismatched
a map on the wall
I played board games inside its walls
I read Jane austin on the floor
I painted
I got taller
I grew up
didn’t have an excuse
for staying in my room
work for beauty
Work for approval
Growing up is hard
Leaving your box is hard
I paint flower fields
Purples and yellows
Fields of rolling green
But those are paintings
You can burn paintings
You can burn novels
The words forever no more
Your childhood can’t burn
Your brain cannot forget
But my box burns along with everything inside
A match lights and my palace falls
My sanctuary
My room
Paintings can char
My flower fields wilt
the ash builds up in my lungs
Perfect is not enough
Never
Forever
Always
Pick your poison
to ignore the inevitable
Growing up

a grazing piece of clay

Cracked clay on the warm concrete
Sweat drips from the hammer
The clay moves to a bucket
The bucket holds water and clay
Slowly it becomes just clay

Walk on stones back to your house
Your clay swung around your arm
Roll it into a cylinder
Make the legs
Then the body, the ears
Mouth
Eyes

Score his body and put him together
Bring him to the fire
Wait.
.
.
.
Now he’s done
Only grazing at your desk
He lives in your room
Watching you grow
Everchanging
a piece of pottery
He’s always there
Right up until he’s knocked off
Ears break
Tails snap
Tears fall

And our cow goes back to the warm concrete
To be broken again

Ruby Bridges, the brave girl!

Ruby Bridges, the brave girl,
Was the only little Black pearl.
She was in an all White’s school.
Without any Blacks. Not cool.
People would go near the school and say,
“No Blacks! Do it my way!”
Ruby would stand in front of them and say
A prayer for them each day.
Standing next to marshalls with guns,
It looked like they weighed tons.
Ruby never seemed scared
So people let Blacks and Whites be in pairs.
Soon Blacks and Whites were in the same school
And Ruby was the one who was cool.
Ruby Bridges, the brave girl,
Has practically changed the world!

¨Faster than light¨

Light is smart

Light is bright

When we think big, light is not just alright

It’s fast

It’s strong

And makes us feel inner light and peace inside

Makes us think, ïf we truly are bright inside, then don’t we need light to show it in the best of us

If we’re special, then arent we bright too?

If the universe is full of bright people then shouldn’t they and others want to help people to show the brightness in them?

Because in this universe were all bright and the brightness in all of us is faster than light.

Grass

Grass,
Green with joy,
Green with life,
Green with color.
Oh, Grass,
You are beautiful in the morning,
Covered with glistening dew.
It doesn’t seem so hard to be a blade of grass.
Green with joy,
Green with life,
Green with color.
Oh, grass,
You grow with great speed,
Trying to kiss the warm sun.
I would love to be a blade of grass.
Green with joy,
Green with life,
Green with color.
Oh, grass,
I hear someone running near,
STOMP STOMP STOMP.
I don’t want to be a blade of grass
Green with joy,
Green with life,
Green with color.
Oh, grass,
Please grow again tomorrow.
