They said…

They talked about things I did not know.

They sang songs I’d never heard.

They looked at things in ways I could not see.

Sometimes, when people say words or sayings,
they would laugh and cover their mouths.

Sometimes they think things that I can’t think.

They read things in ways that I can’t read.

They scramble things up in my brain.

They talk in whispers while staring at me.

They wear things I could never wear,
and use things I could never use.

They say something new and everyone knows what it is,
but I don’t.

I feel alone.

All day I keep having a thought that pops into my brain.
Just do it!
But No no no no No!
I can’t change.
I am me.
I am me AND I like it that way.

The Silence

If there were not bad silence,
we could live in world where conversations ended well.

Where conversations would be done without that weird awkwardness.

A world where if you heard the most amazing conversations,
they would be worth it …because we all know that awkward silence ruins every conversation.

And we would not try to make conversations go longer,
just to avoid the silence.

The fishy car ride

I ride in the car.
I hold on tightly to my pet.
Every bump, the water sloshes on me,
the bumps you barely notice until you are holding a fish.
Just a short drive can leave you
soaked, like the ocean.

I have chosen to accept the water,
Although every time it sloshes I feel the cold chill of it.
You wish for the ride to be over.
Five more minutes I hear.
I am the water.

I see the house where we are dropping my pet at.
The car stops,
more water on me.
I am soaked but we are finally here.

The Devil’s Candy

I’ve got these grandparents
And they’ve got a farm
And that farm has got some pigs
Sure, I’ve gotten in the habit
Of never getting meat
But the devil on my shoulder, he got a thought
That if literally everyone around me always got to eat meat
Then maybe I’ll get the urge
And possibly get that idea
That bacon isn’t really baby pigs on a chopping block who have every right we do to live!

The Dream

On a cold winter’s night I sat by the fire
Sipping hot cocoa, it couldn’t be finer.
As I watched the fire dance
I saw a Knight and he had a lance.
Wrapped in a blanket, I climbed out of my chair
And offered him cocoa, I had plenty to spare.
Next thing I knew he had mounted his horse.
I bid him good night as he galloped away,
Hoping I’d see him again someday.
The fire it crackled
And then a witch cackled.
Then I woke up from my dream.
The fire died down and I fell asleep
Back to the land of sweet dreams
Back to the land of sweet dreams.

Maple Tree

The air smells fresh,
Springtime’s such a glory.
As I watch the children laugh and play,
Oh how it really makes my day.

Oak Tree chuckles while the birds sing,
And whispers to Rose Bush:
“Listen to that tone ring!”
As the sun glitters with that shimmer and shine.

With a blink of the eye, summer is here,
Not a single cloud in sight.
The breeze ruffles my green and healthy leaves
Blocking some heat, while the sun is still bright.

Our neighbor, Treehouse, is crawling with kids about,
Children screaming and children chasing.
I see her glance longingly towards us,
As the sky was painted pink and orange after all that fuss.

Now it is autumn, the nights are getting chilly,
My leaves were dyed red, my friends eyed them with envy.
A soothing breeze calms us all down,
All the people have ended their day.

I watched in horror as Oak Tree’s leaves started dropping,
Leaving nothing but bare branches underneath.
Winter will be here soon, we will need to warm up,
But not if our only clothes won’t stay up.

“Brr!” I woke up to see the frost on me,
As the jingle bells sounded and the sky bled to gray.
A cold wind passes by, making Rose Bush shiver,
It’s a bit difficult to bear this type of day.

Midnight has arrived, bringing slightly more snow,
I look up to see a man riding in the clouds.
His vehicle powered by eight little creatures,
They sure don’t seem to mind the cold!

Waking up again, a warm wind rushes past,
Once again seeing the young play
And the elderly relax
Nature is going to start getting busy again.

Hatred

I feel it seeping out
Of some,
And soaking in
To others.

Those who hate
People who are different,

And those who abhor
Others like themselves
Who reek of hatred,
Never self reflecting.

There is no way to rid humankind of hate
With hate.
You can’t hate anyone enough
And make them hate less.

The only way
to cure us all
is love
for one
another.

As the wisdom
Of greeting cards
And old proverbs
Say,
We must give to our enemies,
Sacrifice for our foes.
Then maybe,
Just maybe,
They will see that hate
Is not the only way.

Coleman

I let her change me,
To who she wanted
Me to be.
Her clothes,
Mid-drift
And fashionably done hair.

I didn’t say no
(I was head over heels,
I couldn’t have.)
I was weak,
I was passive
I let my guard slip,
And suddenly I was not myself.

I cussed,
I flirted,
I yelled,
I did an array
Of non-me things
That cause guilt
And regret
Today.

We don’t speak anymore
(that girl and I)
I shut her out,
Realized she was poison,
And tried to rid her of my conscience.
But she still shows up,
In my infrequent
Self-detrimental comments,
The bits and bobbles
Of caring what I look like,
The year full of
Memories
Tainted by her presence,
And my caring.
