Performance

The room is cold.
My head aches
From the slicked back bun.
But i’ve been ready for my whole life
To perform.

We walk onto stage,
Me and my team,
Into the pitch black darkness.
My bare feet against the smooth black floor.
I find my starting position.

My headache and goosebumps
Are soon replaced
With a rush of adrenaline
As I hear the song
And do the dance
I know so well.

My eyes burn
From the glow of the stage lights.
The music loudly beats
In my head.

As the song comes to an end
I hold my body still.
Hearing nothing but my own breath.
Then the crowd applauds
And the lights go out.

My soft foot steps
Carry me off the stage.
I run through backstage

And I hear the next song begin.
