I am an Athlete
That’s how I see life
That’s who I am
Running, Jumping, Kicking, Shooting
In my mind, life is one big competition
One big chance to prove yourself
One shot is all it takes
One opportunity to change the whole game
I love to see the looks on the boy’s faces when I beat them
It makes me feel like I can do anything
But hard work is what matters most
During practice we sprint
Pools of sweat run down my hot face
My legs feel like noodles and my throat stings
But I keep going
Because being a girl means it will always be twice as hard
Twice as tough
No matter how hard I work I will always be doubted
And that is why I love being an athlete
I love the challenges, even when they seem impossible
Because no matter what, I will fight.

Late!
My parents are mad
I’m feeling bad
I try to hurry
Run downstairs in a flurry
Grab my shoes, put on my coat
Run out the door
Anxiety galore
Remember when school was remote?
Pearl
The little paws and ears peaking through
the covers one giant wag send all on the ground
the sleepy dog jumps down waging her tail
as she goes to see them all in a room.
What I wish
I wish that I was rich
I wish that I owned a horse
I wish that I could do the splits
I wish that I had a puppy
I wish that I had more board games
Christmas is here!
For christmas is here,
Let’s go spread some cheer,
Let’s go have some cookies and pet the reindeer,
Let’s go get a tree,
Let’s wrap it with glee,
Let’s fill it with pictures of you and of me,
Let’s go straight to sleep,
Let’s not make a peep,
Let’s hope Santa Claus comes with presents to reap,
Let’s wake up next morn’,
Let’s run without warn,
Let’s pick up our presents with gift wrapping torn,
“A phone! A hat! My favorite toy!”
Said all of the kids with all smiles of joy.
Let’s all go and play,
Let’s not waste the day,
Spending our Christmas the jolliest way.
The feeling is clear,
Best time of the year,
Do not shed a tear,
For Christmas is here!
The Tiger
The wild cat wakes from its nap.
The tiger roams the forest for their next meal.
He lowers his head ready for attack.
He pounces at the small rodent silencing their squeals.
The birds jump and start to flap.
The tiger kneels,
And feasts on his snack.
All thats left is the bone.
Admiring the land,
Looking at the place he calls home,
He stands.
He lays down and groans.
Places his head down on the moist land.
Sleep Over
I really want to have a sleepover
I will be clean and polite
We will clean up our own messes
And go to bed on time
I really want a sleepover
I promise we won’t die.
Gymnast
On the hard floor,
The gymnast takes her time,
Wipes her sweaty hands,
Breathes, ready to shine,
Steps onto the springy surface,
Shaking like a wet dog,
Everyone knows she’s nervous,
Can she pull it off?
The music starts,
She blows our hearts,
And in the end,
She gets a ten.
Sunshine after a while
Sometimes ,
there is a dark rain outside,
but don’t be frustrated;
the sunshine will arrive ,
but after a while,
and when it arrive
and you passed the rain ;
you will be proud,
because you gain
the victory of proud,
patience
and
wisdom;
but remember
it will be sunshine after a while .
Dog
He crawls onto the couch his eyes sliting open
he rolls up into a ball whiskers drooping low
And closes his eyes going to sleep.
