Oz

Beth
Poor sister
Even poorer Jill
Beth in the Wizard of Oz
Looking for any way out
Guess I gotta see
the wizard
Ugh

Lion
Cowardly
hiding in the brush
Knows where the wizard is but
It’s still so far away Guess
I gotta take him
with me
Ugh

Next
The Scarecrow
Does not have a brain
“Ignorance is bliss” he says
He gets tricked, it wasn’t hard
Still so far away,
The wizard
Ugh

A
Man of tin
Blocks the only road
Dosen’t have a heart so he
Insults everybody else
Great now he’s coming
too yippee
Ugh

Runs
into the
Witch having a bad
day Her sister just died too
Beth knows how she feels and asks
Her to join the group
Now to find
Oz

If
Beth finds the
Wizard could she ask
for her sister back Maybe
Stranger things have happened so
Just maybe she could
Not raising
hopes.

Skip
The part where
You hide behind the
Curtain. Lion needs some courage
Scarecrow needs a brain and Tin
Man could use a heart.
All I want
Well…

Jill
It’s been hard
Without her. maybe
you could bring her back. “I’m afraid
I’m not enough Of a wizard
for That” “Then what was
the point of
This?”

“Why
was I brought
Here. What did it mean?”
“How do I live on?” “You have
a choice.” Her sister appears
She’s been here the whole
time. “Jill?” Beth
Asks.

“She
goes with you”
“That’s how your sister
Lives on now.” “So I just click
my heels?” “and when you do
Remember you have
A choice
Click

Halos

i was your god
i was your angel
million eyed and
winging but you
held me to the ground
and in stealing my
wings fashioned
yourself a halo of
my blood

i was your fallen
i was your villain
thousand teared and
vengeful but you
silenced my screaming breath
and in stealing my
voice fashioned
yourself a sword
of my pain

i am your ruin
i am your doomsday
flashing feathers and
terrifying but you
can’t kill me anymore
and in hurting
me fashioned yourself
the noose from
which you hang

Tastes Like Rain

after George Ella Lyon

I am from playing cards
From pots and pans to forks and knives
I am from the garden,
Full of mud and grass
(It tastes like rain.)
From the big plum tree
To the milkweed by the porch
From the roots
So deep in the earth,
We forget they’re even there
I am from no shoes in the house,
And a radio tune with music playing loud,
Humming songs I know by the first note
I am from the dinner table
With tile floors
And plants climbing the walls
From Jess and Josh,
Countless late nights
Laughing at jokes I didn’t understand,
And watching shows I didn’t know the name of
I am from karma,
Which will always come back to get you
A pair of sharp teeth
That are sure to leave a scar

Blue and Gray

Everything in this neighborhood has an assigned color
Grass is green
Thanks to the automated sprinkler system hidden in the
Dark, brown, soil
Flowers are pink
Roads are black
And houses
Are blue and gray

The sharp angles on each second story roof hurt my eyes and
I look away, instead staring at
Identical street signs
Identical sidewalks
Identical trimmed bushes
In front of houses
Houses painted
Blue and gray

Every window is covered in heavy duty window shades
To block out
Sunlight
Blue skies
Neighbors
And anything else that happens to pass by
White shades on empty windows
Empty windows on walls
Walls, painted
Blue and gray

In some neighborhoods, the houses are eclectic
Like the buttons you gathered from
Under the couch cushions
Tucked between books on the book shelf
Fallen off shirts that are too small
But here
All the buttons are from the same factory
Sewn in neat rows
The same size
Shape
And color
Average
Circular
Blue and gray

It is easy
To get lost here
In this maze of identical streets
The same house
The same yard
Over and over again
Blue and gray

Our world is fading
We are fading into the carpet
That covers old hotel rooms
The random dots on the carpet describe our whole universe
Everything we have ever known
Will be walked over
The carpet
Is the color of soldiers uniforms
The carpet
Is the color of the houses
The carpet
Is blue and gray

Every house
On this block
Is blue
And gray

Orion’s Vision

Under the influence of synth and dials
Night and day, thousands of miles
Carelessly free, the flashing roads
Ages ago, people walked on their own
Now it’s bugattis and lambos for all the people
Nocturnal people, adrenal people
Yonder loomed ahead and yet we turned our heads to impress the regal

All of the lights light up the sky
Humans made them; the others died
Eleven angry men will cry so the 12th, a king, is satisfied
Another time can be recalled;
Dance and joy filled up the hall

They struggle with it, even now,
Unanimously, they take the vow
Remembering tales of the lands ago
Never again is the choice they chose

Barely anyone had to lift a finger,
Asking them to walk this way,
Canceling those who dare to be different
Kick them down and paint their face

Orion-the lord of the land and the living-has simmered and given his power away,
Rendering visions of virtues and valor, falsehoods that they show through the whole Milky Way

Fading Stars

Dice rolling and shooting craps, betrothed with money
Riding golden skating rinks, landing on their stomachs
Ironing Christian Dior, lacing up the buttons
Ninety years ago they dug clothes out of the rubbish,
Killing elephants for food, killing their own to make room

Yelling out in joy they finally found the sand
Only a couple men dared to traverse the land
Under the bridge there was a troll, he’s been there ever since
People were told he was a fiend, but it was all pretense

Fencing the others to gain even a tiny portion
Igniting wars over land, and over things like abortion
They even fought about petty things that you wouldn’t believe
Usurping amongst the rich invented poverty
There were Rifts between cultures, people were scared of the peace, but
Entertainment was in demand, so they created TV’s

Frightening success occurred, no more need to write
Radio and TV night after night, it shaped their lives!
On and never off, to the corporation’s delight
Thought was lost, companies smiled, as it would surely fade over time.

The people, to their surprise, didn’t really mind.

The Heart of a Star

I did a star
for my brand identity project last year.
And I presented
(rather eloquently)
on my stated reasons.
But most real reasons
remain hidden.

So here we go:
my name means star in Italian
my birthday is July 7th, or Tanabata
(look it up).
My school’s mascot
is a star.
I love looking at the stars.

But for the real reasons…
when I was younger I would wonder
how we can see the light.
How can the heart of a star
produce such power and glow yet only show up as a pinprick
of light in the endless dark deep sky?

Now I know.
There are too many stars in the sky
for a single one to shine that bright.

When I was younger I would wonder
how we can see the light.
How can the heart of a star
produce such power and glow yet only show up as a pinprick
of light in the endless dark deep sky?

Now I know.
Each star may seem insignificant from Earth but
each one has its own solar system.

And if that star were to be extinguished
so would everything around it.

And even though we might not notice that absence on Earth
the solar system would.

And the power and glow of each star is fully appreciated and needed
within its solar system.

And the power and glow
within the heart of each star
may only show as a pinprick of light on Earth
but each pinprick makes the world a little brighter
in the endless dark deep sky.

Ode to American Innovation

America is the best
We are the land of rights
We put enemies to the test
By winning all the fights

We have guns
And we have farms
We have tons
Of digital alarms

We’re the most diverse
In geography and race
We don’t need to reverse
We have lots of open space

We fight for freedom
We will never regret it
We didn’t build the colosseum
And that we will admit

We have the best economy
Were the most advanced by far
Advanced in astronomy
And inventors of the car

Now what i’m trying to say here
Even though we arent perfect
We have faced every frontier
And every trail we have trekked

The Amazing Outdoors

Outdoors,the breezy outdoors
The breeze makes me feel free
Like I’m drinking iced tea
Sitting by a tree
I may not agree with the hot heat
But that beats me
When I’m in the sun
I remember when I won
My game and
Came in first
Ready to burst out with excitement
After coming down
From my high
I ride into the bold cold
All bundled up
I try to snuggle up with sheets
in my b.e.d
