The Little Girl in the Gown

I sit in bed.
Pondering.
Waiting
For my thoughts
To drift off
Into the silent
Night.

The phone rings,
“BRING”
So I answer.

“Is this the girl?
The girl in the
white dress?”
A middle aged
Lady asked.
“No,”
I respond.
“I think you have
The wrong number”
The lady hangs up
With a final sigh and
“Thank you”

I wonder back
To my empty
Bed.
I sit back in
The spot I was in
Before
The call.
I look down at
My nightgown.
An old dirty white
Contrasted against my
Dark brown skin.

I look back at the
Phone.
Wondering
If she wanted me,
But how could
A nice sounding
Lady
Like her be
Looking for
Someone
Poor
Like me?

Cactus

Posing all day
Some kind of model
Two long green arms at its side
One long body as it’s base

Hard to get rid of
Spread like wildfire
More and more until they-
Enclose you

Flowers bloom on these creatures
Accepting them as who they are on the inside

Protection from death or-
Death’s little helpers
Holds water
For the desert mouth

Appearances aren’t everything
For they deceive the eye

Earthquake

The world is shaking
Everything is

slipping
Hoping for helping or saving
Some people missing

It’s a sudden attack
You can’t move forward
Or go back
Everything is in disorder

It’s a cataclysm
Everything going crazy
Including geomagnetism
Everyone is hazy

It’s an Earthquake
There is no aid
Giving you a headache
And then the world gets REMADE

Meters

METERS
That’s how close I am to the victory
But obstacles are pushing me faster than Usain Bolt

Restaurants are not allowing me
Water fountains are divided due to diversity
Forced to sit in the back of the bus because of what skin color I was born with

Stopping segregation is like finishing Medical University
Both take time and understanding
And many people don’t want to try it

Life is like spying
The only way to get privileges is by sneaking in.
JUST METERS.

Autumn Fun

Having fun
In autumn sun
Facing heat
Waiting for the cold to catch up
Burning like a flame
That has no hate
Ready for cold
The flame burned out
And the bold
Windy nights
That have no fright of the darkness
Just to wait another year
For autumn to come around

Pain

Pain.

Sucks the joy from your soul.

Places you in bed all day.

Makes you think of nothing but the

Throbbing

Aching

Burning

Sensations radiating through your body.

Sticks to you like glue, not going anywhere.

Fills your heart with sorrow.

Fills your head with fog.

The inside is a war zone,

But the outside is a fake smile.

The inside is invisible.

They don’t understand

Since they can’t see it.

Pain.

A Conversation

O Dragon, O Dragon, how sharp are your teeth?
As sharp as the daggers that are under your feet.
O Dragon, O Dragon, how strong are your claws?
As strong as the teeth in a great white shark’s maw.
O Dragon, O Dragon, how long is your tail?
As long as the length of the mighty blue whale.
O Dragon, O Dragon, how sharp is your glare?
As sharp as the spikes on a porcupine’s hair.
O Dragon, O Dragon, how big is your mouth?
I don’t know that yet, but you’ll soon find out…

Lonely

I have many friends
Athletic friends,
Smart friends,
Creative friends,
All types of friends
I meet all of them every day………
Virtually

Sometimes, I wish I could meet my friends in person
Share feelings, not emojis
Share experiences, not pictures
Play board games, not online gaming
I feel alone in the midst of technology
Lonely

I have many friends
I meet all of them every day
Virtually

Life

Life is like a river.
Sometimes it runs through so smooth,
And then hits you hard like you’d never think it would.
Life is like friendship.
Sometimes you’re at your highest having the best time.
Then,
It leaves you in a disgusted betrayal.
Life is like a path that’s yet to be discovered.
Though we think we know how to defeat it,
There’s no victory in life.
You can make life however you would like,
But.
Because we are so interested in how life works
And how to figure it out
And how to become the best
And live the ideal life
We don’t realize that without a life there’s
No passion
No emotions
No world
No us.
Therefore instead of comparing,
the life we have to other things….
We accept it.

A Loving Family

Everyone has a loving family.
A family that is caring,
Nice,
And kind.

Your family can help,
Through good and bad,
Happy and sad,
And sunny days and rainy days.

You should be happy with your family,
Even if they’re not the best family,
But you should always help them,
For they always help you.
Even though there might be rough patches.

Your family will always help you,
Love you,
So you should love your family.
