The Bahena Family

I am from phone and TV flashing bright lights
from silverware and from princess house
and from HEB produce that we buy on Saturdays

I’m from the only house that has a gate
I’m from the countless hours of TV and punishment that shape us
and from delicious tasting food

I’m from red roses on the counter tops
and the big oak tree outside my window

I’m from tacos and family parties
and big, but strong family
from Francisco to Reyna

I’m from eating good meals with everyone
and having coffee or tea for breakfast

From always hurrying up in the bathroom because there’s always someone waiting
I’m from Sunday afternoons at church

I’m from 9000 Tara Lane

Where I’m From

I am from huggies diapers, crayola markers, and Apple Computers.

I am from the warm and loving; a party!

I am from boating in Lake Travis, from making mud pies, and rock soup, from crazy fun.

I am from the wild turkeys and deer, the dry hard dirt.

I am from Little Helping Hands, and blue eyes from Mama and Daddy.

From putting it aside, to working as close to perfection as possible.

From Gralley Gus is gonna getcha, to if you don’t go get in bed, i’ll call dracula.

I am from believing in helping others to treating people the way you want to be treated.

I am from Marines.

I am from grilled chicken, with creamy white rice and warm s’mores by the fire that burns on forever.

From pulling up the car to the white car to the small rock wall, barricading the sand and running into the warm beach to see pastel painted sea glass.

I am from the white stone house on Kali Cove.

The Lonely dog

Please come home!
I need to be played with!
I’m starving!
I have been waiting forever!
Please come home!
Please come home!
You have been gone forever!
No walks, no treats, no food!
Please come home!
Please come home!
wait a minute what is that sound?
it’s the door!
you are finally home!
I love you so much!
ahhhh, thanks for the tummy rub!
Thanks for coming home!

I’m Homework (false comparison)

Come on I’m due,
tomorrow stuffed in your pile of junk,
in the middle of your room,
trust me this won’t be fun,
you have about a day left,
Please don’t drop your average,
I’m on top of your art project,
mother will be mad,
if you come back with failing,
come on just find me,
looks like you got out of today,
soon you will have to do me though,
this is so not fair,
i deserve more then a zero
