where I am from

Where I’m From
I’m from the books that i read every night from my grandma’s and grandpa’s arms

i am from all the jellies my grandma made, all the soups my mom still makes, and
all the blankets on my bed.

I am from my rose that I watched grow, and my cat and dog that ran away.

I am a Cuenca and Zuppa too.
I am from my dead
grandma’s blanket in our living room.

From my parents’ hugs and my sisters’ games.

I’m from enchiladas and molletes, all the best friends that ditched me and all of my grandma’s stuffies on my bed. I am from those moments and I will be forever.

Soy de….

Soy de amigas carcajeando en una pijamada en mi casa de ATX.

Soy del ritmo de los pies de Caballos en Suncrest farms.

I’m from warm Chälaah right out of the oven with butter melting on top.

Soy de mañanas con blueberry pancakes ayudando en syrup.

Soy de “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.

Soy de Lake George y flip-flops squishing y squelching en la arena y lodo.

I Am From

I’m from beach trips in the summer,
From Barbie dolls and soccer balls,
I am from “We’re going to be late”
And “Come on Braden”
I am from a lake house
Who never grew old,
I am from volleyballs and cheer competitions
which were always loud,
I am from old dogs
Who need extra care,
I am from a Memaw
And a Pepaw
I am from swimming pools no matter the weather,
From sleepovers with friends,
I am from an Oma,
And an Opa
I am from a wonderful home, with a wonderful family,
I am from Austin, Texas.

What’s in a Library?

-A computer, to find your books
-The lady, who checks your book out insanely slowly
-The person who whispers, but is still loud as a tiger
-That one book, in the wrong spot
-The book cart, which is a new place every minute
-The shusher, who always shushes people who aren’t even loud

What I used to be

I used to be stupid but now I’m still stupid,
I used to see my best friend but not anymore,
I used to play soccer and luckily I still do,
I used to be clueless, still am,
I used to say googoogaga but now I can form sentences and write poems,
I used to be small but now I’m bigger and stronger than when I was a little boy.

City

When you look around every corner
you’ll see buildings like no other
new people you’ll discover
with stores home to thousands of gadgets
with a unique specialty of food.
