Where I’m From

Where I’m From
by: Ren Hewgley

I am from the sloth that my grandpa gave me before he passed and my soccer ball.

Form Nike and Nerds ( the candy )

I am from the smell of my mom’s penne casserole

Warm, delicious, and the best thing ever

I am from my brother’s garden and the purple flowers in a pot by our swimming pool

I’m from Christmas and going to my grandma’s house

From my mom and my dad

I’m from my loving Sadie and Rise and Shine

From time to pick roses and it’s Friday Jr.

I’m from Easter morning, egg hunts, and easter baskets

I’m from Austin, TX yall, and Viridian Way.

From my mom’s fantastic ranch dip and my quesadillas that my brother doesn’t eat

From the time my mom and dad met through friends

The time my grandpa and I went fishing together for the first time.

My nightstand with Poppy’s picture on it.

What’s In my Closet

Dark and Scary
Piles of clothes become monsters in the dark
Will the doors be open or shut tonight?

Creek!
Clothes grandma nite by hand that you never wear
Hey!
What’s my chair doing in there?

That one moldy burrito you thought disappeared
That one piece of clothing that is so covered in paint it seems as if you painted it yourself
Just a plain old shelf

That one lonely sock without it’s other pair
Hey!
What are you doing there?

I used to

I used to be a shortstop, but now I play catcher

I used to take piano lessons, now I teach myself

I used to eat avocados, but now I think they’re nasty

used to be in elementary school, but now I’m in middle school

I am…

I from the loud sports complex
From the volleyballs to the basketballs
I am from the house on the coalsack
With the kitchin that never closes
I am from the hot a Sunny days
The bushes that are always dead
Shriveling up more everyday
I’m from the family days and vacations
From my mom and dad
I’m from staying up late and spending money
And from laughing likes there’s no tomorrow
I’m from smile and speak up
And miss mary mack
I’m from christmas dinner
And from bake offs in the kitchen
From austin to louisiana
Chicken and Fries
To the 36 year old’s accident
To the 42 year olds accident
Long travels and short ones
I am Alexa Cooper
Proud and Strong

I’m Tired

I’m tired of going to bed and waking up at a certain time
I’m tired of going to school expecting to be happy
I’m tired of walking class to class in fear of being late
I’m tired of being told to be quiet when the others are being loud
I’m tired of being an introvert when others are having fun
I’m tired of being told that things I like are overrated
I’m tired of escaping school just to do homework
I’m tired of being told not to complain when I’m expressing feelings
I’m tired of saying no yet I’m tired of saying yes
I’m tired of sleeping if I’m just going to wake up
I’m tired of eating if I’m just going to be hungry
I’m tired of being scared of being denied but
I’m tired of not being scared of anything at all
I’m tired of being told to go away yet
I’m tired of being told to stay

Middle School

Pencils gliding across papers like figure skaters,
children chattering to one another as the crisp air whirls around the room.

Munching and crunching on food in the cafeteria boys and girls babbling on about the day as their conversations echo throughout the room as if they were in a cave

The bell rings and we all jump for joy
The day has ended and now we get to go to our cozy, little homes.

Wishes

I used to watch my sister do makeup
Now I do it
I used to want to go to school
Now I want to stay home
I used to want to grow up
Now I want to be younger
I used to have lots of energy
Now I’m always tired
I used to watch YouTube kids
Now I watch TikTok
I used to hate perfume
Now I use it nearly every day
I used to want a lot of best friends
Now I only want one
I used to love music
I still do
I used to Hate the dark
Now I love it
I love fruits like kiwi
It’s sweet and tangy
That’s what I want a friendship to be like
Sweet and tangy.
