HELLO POETS! Let the Poems Begin!

HAPPY POETRY MONTH, Y’ALL-
Normally, at the beginning of April, our team is scrambling to get ready for the Vision+Voice Award Reception: inviting guests, ordering the catering and decorations, lining up musicians, editing poetry videos, sending posters and anthologies to the printing company, and scheduling all the workers who make the event happen.

Of course, this year we’ve had to change our plans to keep everyone safe. Go ahead to take a minute to be sad that our big party must be postponed, but do not despair. We will have a HUGE CELEBRATION for the 2020 winners when it’s safe for us to be together again.

In the meantime, April is still Poetry Month and we have some ways to celebrate while maintaining safe social distancing.

We are now accepting poetry submissions for the 2021 Vision+Voice Poetry Contest – SUBMIT A POEM NOW!

We have expanded and improved the RESOURCES section of the website:

Ask A Poet is just what it sounds like: you submit a question and we get a real, live, professional poet to answer your question

Articles is a collection of links to articles about poetry

Poetry Prompts can help you think of how to get started

Commentary is a place where we post videos from guest poets who comment on their favorite poems from the 2020 contest

COMING SOON: All the poetry videos produced by Austin PBS over the last 7 years are being uploaded to our Vision+Voice YouTube Channel so you can see all the videos from previous years. (The 2020 videos will premiere at the 2020 Award Reception sometime in the Fall).

This has been a tumultuous time for all of us. I’m so happy you are here, reading the words I’ve written in an attempt to connect with you.

What better way to spend your solitary time than to write poetry?!

Poetically yours,
Polly
