Even a Broken Clock is Right Twice a Day

Half way down Cherry St.,
Past the rundown town cellar,
Is Woodburch Clock Shop;
Run by a lady and a feller.
And late in the night,
When the man has ceased to fiddle,
He treads off to bed

And the shop moves a little.

And the coo-coo bird tweets,
And the grandfather clock scowls,
And the alarm clock rings,
And the little clocks just howl.

And throughout all this ruckus,
The broken clocks snore.
For they never wake up,
They’re too much of a bore.

But the only thing
The man and lady could hear
Was the angel-like giggle
of their daughter Suzy Dear.

And so the woman rushed to her side,
And the man asked “What’s the matter?”
But the girl only gestured to the clocks.
“Don’t they make such a clatter?”

And though the man was confused,
The woman just smiled.
Then she turned to her husband:

“Oh, to again be a child.”

Bring Along the Light

In the darkest night
Bring along the light
Hold it up and shine it bright
Don’t let darkness’ grip grow to tight
And always always do what’s right
Try for this with all your might
And soon you will take flight
Far higher than any kite
Then endless shall be your sight
To avoid evil’s spite
For you shall be justice’s knight
Drive away wrong’s blight
Show the world only delight
Spare the world from its plight
Never let it fall into fistfight
Bring the world warmth like firelight
Never let evil’s jaws close and bite
Let the light turn black to white
Work together to reach a new height
Make others’ burdens always light
Make a difference huge or slight
Speak for justice you have that right
Even if you don’t know how to write

To turn to darkness is to alight

One Breath

One Breath
Sadness is gasping for air, but finding none.
One second you’re breathing, the next…

So many questions
“Why?”
“What did she do to deserve this?”

So little time

The tall men in long white robes have left you to gather your thoughts,
But there’s too many.

“We’re here if you need anything”’
It echoes in your head.

A tear runs down your cheek.
You wish she was still here
the real her: laughing, playing, singing…not this.
You wish you could breathe again.

The world is over,
everything is crumbling before you.
Nothing will ever be the same.

You feel a pat on your back.
“It’s going to be ok”
O K
Such an empty word.

Another tear.

Your mouth opens, but no words,
You must focus.

E X H A L E
repeat.

Plastic

Look around what do you see?
I see plastic destroying our seas.
Rivers and lakes are where plastic’s found;
I’ve also seen it on the ground.

Plastic kills animals as quick as can be;
Turtles and birds cannot get free.
How do we stop the awful big mess?
Let’s begin; put plastic to rest.

If you use some plastic today,
Make an effort; don’t throw it away
Using plastic’s a deadly curse,
So stop using plastic and save our Earth!

the shadows

The shadows
People think of darkness
As a place of hate
Where you are sad
A place where you are lonely
Never to be loved

But it could be a place
To be your self
Never told what to do
A place that you’re difference are ok
Never to be treated like your nothing
A place that people think of you as one of them

A place of darkness
Theirs a place of light

Villain

My sister is like a villain.
Always cruel,
and despicable,
but never kind.

She wears funky and peculiar clothing,
like no other person would wear.

She pranks me,
tattle tails on me,
and always make me look like the bad guy
even when I don’t do anything.

My sister makes fun of me,
poisons my food,
takes my things,
and I don’t even know even know why.

But at the end,
when she blames her problems on me,
she never wins
because I always end up with the crown.

grass underneath a tree

i am the grass underneath a tree
stuck in the shadow of the leaves
the sunlight barely shines on me
yet it illuminates the flowers next door.

i feel forgotten about
and i feel one-upped
by all the pretty flowers
who always have sunlight shining on them.

i hope that one day
someone will see
that just because i’m not as pretty as the flowers
doesn’t mean that i don’t deserve the

Summer Nights

the vibrant night sky filled with stars
the burning warm light of the raging fire
the smell of sweet warm s’mores-

gooey and creamy and delicious s’mores
under the blanket of dancing stars, like bright lights
your heart warming by the red and orange fire-

the crackle of the burning orange fire
the warmness of melted s’mores
the feeling of comfort when you look at the bright stars

as you sit there under the stars with the warmth of fire and the smell of sweet s’mores as you lay on an open grass field on a summer night.

The Stars

The night sky shines so bright
From the stars that glimmer in the night
I love the way they twinkle in
the sky
Even though they fade away
I love to see them play

The way they flow through the
Sky makes me feel happy about
Life
Every day I see them I feel
Like all my stress melts away
Like melted chocolate and I feel good
